Helping to Reduce and Prevent Reflux in Babies
Reduced Acid Reflux in Babies
Acid reflux or posseting is unpleasant for your baby and is the cause of many a disturbed sleep.
What Causes Acid Reflux in Babies?
Reflux in babies can be caused by a variety of reasons. It can result from an immature sphincter muscle at the top of the stomach as well as a poor nerve supply to that sphincter.
Other causes may be irritation of the stomach through either the nerves that supply the stomach or the contents within the stomach, as is the case in intolerance or toxins.
Either way the symptoms of reflux will nearly always be made worse when your baby is tense or upset. As the baby cries the tension in the baby’s abdomen increases thereby making the pain worse.
Baby Reflux Treatment with Sleepcurve
A SleepCurve© mattress has a gentle slope down towards the feet designed to help your baby, whilst still being totally comfortable and allowing your baby to sleep in a natural, comfortable position.
The gentle slope of the SleepCurve mattress helps take the pressure off the sphincter by helping keep the stomach contents towards the bottom of the stomach and away from the sphincter.
In addition, the shape of the mattress in allowing the airways to be open will help relax the baby and thereby allow the reflux to settle. As you will see from the video the baby is gently inclined with the airways open to achieve this.
Additional slope angle can be easily achieved by placing a thin book, for example, under the foot-end of the cot or Moses basket.
