"The SleepCurve® mattress is amazing, it ticks so many boxes!"
"I initially decided to try the moses mattress as Elwood developed a slight flattening on one side of his head and I was told that the mattress could help, which it has, but it’s the other benefits which I like, for example when Elwood caught his first cold, the mattress was perfect for positioning his head so his airways were free and his sinuses never blocked. Day time was hard for him, but when night time came he slept right through. I highly recommend it"
Sherri Tai-Chidlow, mum to Elwood
Your baby’s temperature is very important and care should be taken to avoid overheating. Ordinary cot or crib mattresses trap the heat against your baby’s body and head leading to discomfort. SleepCurve® mattresses feature intergrated, rounded channels so excess heat can escape, leaving your baby comfortable and happy.
When a baby is lying on their back on a flat surface, the head is tilted down with the chin touching the top of the chest. This isn’t natural because it constricts the airways and a baby breathing like this is more likely not to sleep through the night. A SleepCurve® baby mattress allows the head to rest in a natural neutral position with the airways completely clear and babies breathing this way will be more comfortable and more likely to sleep through. Parents tell us that their babies sleep more peacefully and when babies catch a normal respiratory infection, they are less affected because the airway is in the natural, open position.
In a recent clinical study by Alder Hey Children's Hospital, 29 out of 30 babies with Flat Head Syndrome showed significant* improvement in head shape (cranial vault asymmetry) after using a SleepCurve® mattress. The report concluded that the SleepCurve® mattress produced similar results as a baby helmet for treating Flat Head Syndrome. The authors also commented on how much more cost effective the mattress was (as well as being less obtrusive and more comfortable for baby).
*Average head asymmetry fell from 16mm to 5mm over the 6 month period.
Acid reflux or posseting is unpleasant for your baby and is the cause of many a disturbed sleep. A SleepCurve® mattress has a gentle slope down towards the feet designed to help your baby, whilst still being totally comfortable and allowing your baby to sleep in a natural, comfortable position.
All babies’ heads have a pronounced bulge at the back. In the early weeks of a baby's life the shape and weight of the head is too much for the undeveloped neck muscles to control movement. As a result babies lying on a flat mattress will end up with their head turned to one side or another. The unique hollow of a Sleepcurve® mattress allows the baby’s head to turn more freely, which has benefits for the spine and the muscles around the spine as well as the neck muscles.
The SleepCurve® Cot Bed Mattress is suitable for babies who are too big to sleep comfortably in a crib or moses basket. The unique design delivers ultimate comfort for babies and peace of mind for parents.
The SleepCurve® Cot Bed Mattress features a movable curve that has four levels of adjustability. As your child grows, the curve can be moved along the length of the mattress, allowing it to be positioned in the correct place underneath the child’s head whilst their feet remain at the base of the cot in accordance with the FSID recommended ‘Feet to Foot’ guidance.
The pack includes a mattress with a pre-fitted hypoallergenic, anti-dustmite and washable mattress protector and two fitted sheets. You can also purchase additional sheet sets if required.
Mattress Size: 70cm x 140cm
Is there any independent clinical proof of the effectiveness of the mattresses?
There has been a clinical study of the mattresses by Alder Hey Children's Hospital. They found that 29 of the 30 babies in the study had a significant improvement in head shape over the 6 month study period. The average was a 11mm improvement. The report concluded that SleepCurve mattresses were an 'effective treatment' with results similar to a baby helmet but at a fraction of the cost.
If my baby rolls over and doesn't stay with its head in the curve should I stop using a SleepCurve mattress?
There is no evidence of any detrimental effect of using a SleepCurve mattress once your baby can roll over independently. However, if your baby moves a lot or is rolling over regularly then we recommend that you review the use of the mattress. If your baby's head is not in the curve in the correct position the positive benefits of using the mattress are lost.
So happy I discovered this mattress!!!
I spent ages searching the internet for information on flat head syndrome as I had noticed that my 10 week old had significant flattening on one side as he prefers to look one way. Having mentioned my concerns to health visitor, I wasn't happy just to leave it alone and hope his hair will hide it when he's older-had tried everything to try to encourage him to look the other way etc. That's when I looked into mattresses and flat head syndrome anf came across the sleepcurve mattress and didn't hesitate in buying one. My little one has slept on it for just under a month and I can honestly say that his little head is rounding out beautifully and he sleeps so well on it to; can't recommend this enough-was beginning to think I may have to go down the helmet treatment route to ccorrect but thanks to the sleepcurve mattress this won't be necessary.

Results for flat head seem to appear quite quickly
Our son is 6 months old and was born with quite a misshapen head due to how he was lying inside. He also had torticollis and therefore favoured sleeping on one side resulting in a flat head to one side. We bought the mattress to try and correct this and because there had been people whose babies slept through the night because of the mattress. We have noticed, after a week and a bit, that his head is already changing shape. On the sleeping front it has made no difference whatsoever...guess you either get a sleeper or you don't!
My only complaint is that the last position you use (which we use now as he sleeps in a sleeping bag so no need for feet to foot) is quite a way from the top of the cotbed - much further than where your head would normally be on a bed. This means that when he is older, we will have to revert to our old mattress so that he gets the full use out of the cotbed. I would also like the sheets to be a bit softer if you HAVE to use them with the mattress. I did try our original sheets but they don't 'dip' into the curve so i'm guessing they could be a suffocation hazard.

Cot bed bliss - suitable from newborn with promising results
Our son Jim's already in a cot bed at 8 weeks as he was born with torticollis (twisted neck) and a plagiocephaly (flat spot) on the front of his head. Upon seeing an osteopath sleepcurve was highly recommended. The website states a cotbed mattress is suitable from 9 months but Jim is already too long for the the shortest curve setting so the manufacturer may want to review this. It's easy to use, baby sleeps well and we're already seeing benefits to skull shape alongside osteopathy. Use with a sleeping bag for a newborn and it's ideal. His temperature is regulated well and he seems happy and comfortable. I am happily recommending this mattress to friends and family. Thank you sleepcurve.
Thank you for the review Heather.
We have recently changed the information on the Cot Bed mattress page to say 'Our Cot Bed Mattress is suitable for babies who are too big to sleep comfortably in a crib or Moses basket' - which is what we should of said all along!
Great news that Jim is happy and comfortable on the SleepCurve mattress :-)
And many thanks for recommending our mattresses.

Making big difference!
I first heard about the sleep curve mattress from my osteopath who was treating my 5 month old daughter who had a favourite side and no matter what I did she wouldn't move her head to the other way whilst sleeping. I have to say that after a month of my daughter using it I have seen a big difference already and her face has evened out and she sleeps more on her back which she never did before. I now have a few friends who will be buying one!
Great news :-)
Thanks for the review Caroline

My husband and i purchased the sleep curve mattress for our 6 month old baby who developed a flat spot at the back of head from around 4 months old. I Had been very concerned and conscious of this and had tried numerous of repositioning techniques, plenty of tummy time, baby wearing and also purchased a pillow, however was unable to use at night due to risk of SIDs. However i had not witnessed an improvement, since i have purchased the sleep curve i have already noticed an improvement and i am so happy that my babies head now seems to be rounding! I can now relax when i put baby to bed at night as i know that for 10-12 hours while he sleeps he is comfortable and the pressure at back of his head is reduced and evenly distributed. As a nurse myself and as a mother i would highly recommended this product, excellent quality and fast delivery!! Thanks sleep curve

I bought this mattress for my four month old baby boy who had developed a flattening to the left side of his head which other people had started to notice. He had been a very unsettled baby from birth and had never slept for more than a couple of hours at a time. The first time he slept on this mattress he slept a whole six hours !! He seemed more comfortable, his breathing was calmer and he seemed more relaxed, what's more within days his head flattening started to resolve, after ten days it was visibly improved and after three weeks you could barely see a difference between the two sides! Altogether I have a happier, calmer baby with a perfect head shape, would I recomend this product? Absolutely 100%!

so far so good
Have only had this mattress on my daughters bed for a week but think we are already seeing an improvement in her plagiocephaly. Mattress is a perfect fit for cot bed BUT the sheets that came with it did not fit (too small) and curved the mattress up. Spoke with the company who were apologetic for the inconvenience this caused and luckily a normal sheet I had fitted perfect. no massive issue but more inconvenience as we had these included in the price we paid but they are useless to us.

relaxing to know this might help my LO
I've only had it a few days but it's nice to know after watching the film on the web site that it's gonna help his flat head.
But the first night he slept on it he turned himself right round so he had his whole body in the dip. Don't know how I'm gonna stop that??? But he did sleep all night.
And as someone else said in their review the sheets only just fit the mattress.

Great mattress but...
The back of our daughter's head was slightly flattened due to sleeping through the night on a firm (recommended) mattress. The sleep curve cot bed mattress appears to have helped this issue as after 2 months of using this the base of her skull has more shape. I would have given this a 5 but the sheets only just fits the mattress but don't let this put you off.
I wish I knew about these mattresses sooner but will be investing in them if we have more children.

I’d researched different mattresses and whilst I was tempted by some of the more expensive ones, the Sleepcurve offered the most important benefits. I was keen to see whether it would help with my baby's breathing and make her sleep better. I also liked the fact it helps prevent Flat Head Syndrome - which was a problem for my first baby (unfortunately we didn't know about Sleepcurve). It is early days but it does seem to have helped with the breathing and she has been sleeping better - so thank you SleepCurve.
